Tokyo impressions
..can now be found in my photoblog. Quite a few pictures and some text.
Can't help it, I just saw so many wonderful and strange things, so I stopped caring about download times... 25.11.04
"Been around the world, na na na"...
Yes, Im back from Tokyo. Yes, Im alive. Yes, Im running around like mad to catch up with the admin overhead, thesis exams, and day-to-day deadlines that ITU keeps heaping on my table (grrr). The conference was, to put it mildly, weird: it seems like image visualisation computer scientist had taken it over and they sure as hell do not have the same concept of "world" as I do. But it was an interestning conference etnographic experience for that reason. Took more time off-conference that I normally would for that reason, and therefore shot a lot of cool picture (IMHO ;)) in Tokyo city which I will post in the photoblog shortly.
And talking about photos and cities, Martin gave me a nifty link to a photosite called: iPods Around the World - it reminds me a bit of the Implementation project (for which I made a few installments in Tokyo), in that you can see it as a form of distributed "narrative" about an IPOD's travel around the world and where the ultimate goal of the "game" embedded in it, is to be able to be the one to post the most aestethic, the most "telling" or the funniest pictures from the weirdest places in the world. 14.11.04
Off to Tokyo!
Tomorrow I'm leaving for the Cyberworlds conference in Tokyo. Back again next sunday late, and not sure I'll make net connections often, so might be a week or so before you read me again. But I promise to blog about the conference and the city once back, I have a distinct sense that I'm going to be the only European woman around at the conference, so that should potentially make for some interesting experiences ;).
Meanwhile, for your entertainment, there are now some pictures from the Bergen conference in the photoblog. [Yes, I did get home safely LATE friday night. But there were ice on the wings and bad weather, so the evening flight was more than one hour late and I did not set foot on Copenhagen ground before 22.20. Some 9 hours later than planned. Sigh.]. Picture Play - Web Mosaics
Check out 10 by 10, a little program that depicts the words and pictures currently most used in online news. An interesting way to track how news develops and is presented online.
And talking of pictures: another little nifty program is the mosaic program I saw at the Digital & Sosial conference. Choose a portrait or photo you want a remake of, and the program will redo the portrait by using a myriad of small pictures either taken from your own picture collections or directly from the web (at least in the Mac version). The Mac-version is called MacOSaiX (the link leads you to the download page). The pc-version is called AndreaMosaic (link = download page). 12.11.04
AAAAARGH! Stuck in Bergen Airport
The conference (what I heard of it) has been great and the compagny of the Bergen/Norway people I know and got to know pleasant as always, but right now I'm STUPIDLY stuck in Bergen Airport because the SAS personel at Kastrup Airport is on strike. I was supposed to catch a flight at 12.00 - but were on arrival (after waiting in a queue in front of the SAS ticket counter for more than an hour and a half) rescheduled for 20.00 tonight with no guarantee that the plane will actually take of - if the strike continues, Im stuck in Bergen until tomorrow, which might not have bothered me so much if it wasn't for the fact that Im flying out to Tokyo on monday and have tons of stuff to day in Copenhagen before I leave.
On top of the waiting, Bergen Airport's internet connection computers have all been removed for repair...so thank God for the wireless network, which I can use at a price of NKR 129 for 4 hours (and I am so gonna charge SAS for this expense). So now writing/mailing/blogging from the HANSA cafe's most traficked corner, the only place in the entire building which provides access to an electrical socket, so my laptop can get some juice. Back in Copenhagen, I was supposed to meet up with 3 students 20 min ago. And the academic officer. And the head of research. I think I have managed to get hold of most of them, but nevertheless GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 11.11.04
ELINOR - here we go!
Blogging from the Digital & Sosial conference in Bergen - from that exiting part of the conference where the ELINOR network has its first public appearance. ELINOR is an abbreviation of Electronic LIterature in the NORdic countries, and was initiated by Jill Walker and Thomas Brevik in Norway. ELINOR is a network which gathers researchers from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark and the purpose of it is to advertise and study the life of electronic literature in a Scandinavian context.
Right now Scott Rhettberg is talking about the networked novel and after him, it is my turn to talk about electronic literature in the Nordic countries. The talks are being filmed and will be available on the conference site afterwards. Here is the linklist, I'll be going through (partly). Update: presentation done. Slides are here: "Har endret ja - electronic literature in the Nordic countries 2004" 8.11.04
Slides Digital Æstetik & Kommunikation
For those of you who asked:
here are the working link to my slides for my presentation on the Digital Aesthetics & Communication course (Digital Æstetik & Kommunikation) in October. 7.11.04
Klastrup: Coming next at...
Digital & Sosial. Bergen, Thursday Nov. 11th: "Electronic Literature in the Nordic Countries".
Cyberworlds 2004. Tokyo, Saturday Nov. 20th. "Transmedial Worlds - Rethinking Cyberworld Design" (a paper co-written with Susana Tosca). Have to prepare these trips & my lectures - and in-between handle the day-to-day business of the Department, which never seem to lessen + sort out my teachning activities for the spring. So most likely not a lot a time for writing here in the next two weeks (either). But I havent forgotten you, dear readers ;). However, it will be great meeting my Norwegian colleagues again - and immense fun to go shopping in Akihabara in between presentations. So also exitedly looking forward to the travel activities! Digital audition
If you, like me, would like a piano, to practice your choir's musical scores, audite! seems to be a tool worthwhile checking out. (Beware: site in German).
The link via the Danish mail/online-mag Søndag Aften - always worth reading for their interesting digital titbits. 1.11.04
Digitizing the News - theorising web communication?
For my course in Communication on the Web (and for my research in the area), it seems really difficult to find theoretically oriented discussions and books on online communication. However Digitizing the News appears to be a much-needed, albeit somewhat empirically inclined, contribution to the field.
