This is the research diary of researcher Lisbeth Klastrup, since february 2001 sharing her thoughts on life, universe, persistent online worlds, games, interactive stories and internet oddities with you on the www.

I am currently on leave from the IT University of Copenhagen, and from aug. 2006 - aug. 2007 working as Associate Research Professor at the Center for Design Research Copenhagen, an independant center situated at the School of Architecture. During this year, I will be working on a book about the development of aesthetics, design and interaction on the WWW, together with colleague Ida Engholm.

My blog often reflects how busy I am in general, so posting may be pretty irregular, as well as my potential response to comments. But I read them!

An eventful day
Today, my good friend and soon former ITU student Tommy defended his Master's Thesis with flying colours. He's done some very interesting work (in English!) on non-verbal forms of social interaction in EverQuest. Tommy is now officially a cand.it (the official degree name for candidates from the IT University). Congratulations!

At ITU, I met Gonzala Frasca and his sweet wife Virginie. They arrived in Denmark yesterday - unfortunately they had the worst reception possible. These day, I'm really ashamed to live in Denmark when it comes to immigration politics. I hope, I helped them sort out where to go next to hand in the right applications for residence permits. Of course, all the relevant information on immigration matters and residence permits is on the www for people to find - in Danish! Helloooo.....

Actually, I wasn't supposed to be at work, but I was heading an exam and it was the last day for handing in and dealing with receipts from last year (and I had quite a few of those for my house account). You see, I finally went to the doctor the other day, and she diagnosed me with inflammation of the ear and throat, frontal sinusitis and bronchitis, wrote out a strong penicillin cure and told me to try and stay at home and get better. It comes pretty natural, since I'm dead tired and coughing and blowing my nose all the time. And it is in weird way "nice" to know, that there is a reason why I haven't been really well since before christmas and that it is not just a question of me not being able to pull myself together etc. But my, am I getting tired of watching afternoon soaps...
- So why did I go to work? I guess, it's just that when there are other people involved (like students) who you will clearly be letting down, by for instance not examining them or posing their exam questions, it's really difficult to cancel work activities - when you can actually stand up, move around and make decent conversation for a while.

Luckily no more exams before monday (and then only one). Till then, I'll try to sleep and relax. And have people do stuff for me.
